“On our wedding night, I decided to play a prank on my husband and hid under the bed to surprise him. But when the door opened, it wasn’t my husband who walked into the room — it was a complete stranger.”

On our wedding night, I decided to play a prank on my husband and hide under the bed. I thought it would be funny and sweet — the kind of silly story we would laugh about for years. I wanted to surprise Alex and start our life together with a smile.

It was cramped and dusty under the bed. The dust tickled my nose, and I covered my mouth with my hand to keep from sneezing. I lay on the cold floor while my expensive white wedding dress became wrinkled and pressed against the ground. The lace caught on the carpet, and the tulle tangled around my legs, but I endured it. Everything had to be perfect.

I kept replaying the scene in my mind. Alex would walk into the room, tired but happy. He would take off his jacket, loosen his tie, and softly call my name. Then I would crawl out from under the bed, get tangled in my dress, and we would both laugh as we fell onto the bed.

The door opened with a heavy creak. I tensed and bit my lip to stop myself from laughing too soon. My heart was racing, and my body was ready to jump out at any moment.

But the footsteps were different.

They were not Alex’s calm footsteps. Instead, I heard the sharp, confident sound of heels striking the floor, as if someone wanted to be heard.

Through the narrow gap between the bedspread and the floor, I saw a pair of men’s shoes.

Not Alex’s shoes.

The mattress creaked as a stranger sat down on the edge of the bed directly above me. The room fell silent. Then the man took out his phone. The screen lit up, and he made a call.

I froze when I heard what came next.

The man was my husband’s best friend. I recognized him immediately, even by his shoes. I covered my mouth with my hand and barely dared to breathe.

— Yes, I’m already in their room. No one is here, he said confidently.
— Everything will go exactly as planned. Trust me, I’ll see it through.

He spoke calmly, without emotion, as if discussing ordinary business matters……

— No. By morning, he’ll be dead.

My vision blurred.

I was lying under the bed in my wedding dress, listening to someone plan my husband’s murder.

— The wife is taken care of too. The police will have no trouble blaming her once they find the body in the morning. The spouse is always the first suspect.

I clenched my fists so tightly that my nails dug into my palms. I realized that in their plan, my husband would die and I would end up in prison.

— You’d better figure out how to sell his business for a profit. After his death, all the shares will belong to me.

All right, stay in touch. I’ll call you back when it’s done.

The call ended.

He stood up, looked around the room one last time, and left, never suspecting that a witness was hiding beneath the bed.

The moment the door closed, I crawled out and immediately dialed 911. My voice shook, and my words came out tangled, but I managed to tell them the most important part.

When I told my husband everything, he didn’t believe me at first. He insisted it was impossible, that his best friend could never do such a thing.

But only a few hours later, it became clear that my foolish little prank had saved his life.
