Around midnight, the phone rang in the house.
The father picked up.
“Good evening… I’m sorry for calling so late, but I have something I need to tell you.”
The voice was unfamiliar and official.
The father frowned.
“Who is this?”
The mother immediately sensed that something was wrong and lifted her head from the pillow.
“Who’s calling?”
The father covered the receiver with his hand.
“Some military officer…”
“Sir, I’m your son’s commander. Or rather… I was his commander.”
The father suddenly sat upright.
“What do you mean, ‘was’? Where is my son? Put him on the phone.”
There was a brief silence on the other end.
“Sir… unfortunately, I can’t do that. Please accept my condolences.”
The father turned pale.
“What are you talking about?”
The mother jumped out of bed.
“What did he say? What’s happening?”
The father spoke sharply into the phone:
“You must have made a mistake. We spoke to our son just yesterday. He was at the barracks. He wasn’t on any mission.”
“Yes, sir. He wasn’t on a combat mission.”
“Then what happened?”
“Unfortunately… his life was taken not by an enemy bullet, but by a dangerous infection. The illness progressed extremely quickly.”
The father’s voice grew louder.
“What infection? He’s a perfectly healthy young man!”
The mother was already standing beside him, desperately trying to hear the conversation.
“In two days, his body will be delivered to you. He will be placed in a zinc coffin. The infection may be contagious, so opening the coffin is strictly prohibited. Please follow all safety regulations.”
The father gripped the phone so tightly that his knuckles turned white.
“You’re lying to me.”
“Sir…”
“Don’t call me ‘sir’! I want to speak to my son!”
“That’s impossible.”
“Then I’ll come to the base and find him myself!”
The mother was already crying and pulling at his arm.
“What happened? Tell me!”
The father was almost shouting into the phone.
“I’m very sorry…”
The man abruptly hung up.
The room fell silent.
The mother stared at him with wide, terrified eyes.
“What happened?”
The father remained silent for a long time before finally saying quietly:
“They say… our son is dead.”
The mother covered her mouth with her hand and sank onto the bed.
“No… this can’t be…”
Two days later, they were standing in the morgue.
A heavy zinc coffin stood on a metal table.
A masked attendant shifted awkwardly from one foot to the other.
“I have to warn you that the coffin cannot be opened. The military sent an official order.”
The mother couldn’t take her eyes off the coffin.
“That’s not my son.”
The attendant sighed.
“Excuse me?”
“I can feel it… that isn’t him.”
The father looked at her wearily.
“They told us his body is inside.”
The mother stepped closer.
“No. That’s not him. Open the coffin.”
The attendant shook his head.
“I can’t do that.”
The father looked at him coldly.
“That’s our son. We have the right to see him.”
“I’ll be in serious trouble.”
“And we have a son lying inside that coffin,” the father said quietly. “Open it.”
The attendant hesitated for a long time, then let out a heavy sigh and picked up a tool.
The metal screeched.
One by one, the locks gave way.
The lid slowly lifted.
The mother was the first to look inside.
A second later, she screamed.
The father immediately stepped forward.
And inside, he saw…..

The parents couldn’t believe that their perfectly healthy son could have died from some mysterious illness, so they insisted that the zinc coffin be opened. What they discovered inside shocked everyone.
Their son really was lying inside the coffin.
But his face was covered in bruises. A huge hematoma darkened his cheekbone. His lip was split. One arm lay at an unnatural angle, and even without medical training, it was obvious that it was broken.
The attendants quietly said:
“This… doesn’t look like an infection.”
The father slowly turned pale.
“He was beaten.”
The mother sobbed, clutching the edge of the table.
“They killed him…”
A few days later, it became known that there had been no infection at all.
A fight had broken out at the military base.
The son of a powerful general had beaten their son to death.
The army command quickly fabricated a story about a “dangerous infection” in order to cover up the crime.
They were counting on one thing:
that no one would ever open the zinc coffin.
