The cemetery caretaker noticed that one of the graves never froze, even during the harshest winters, and remained green. He decided to dig it up, and what he discovered beneath the ground filled the old man with genuine terror.

At first, he thought he was imagining it.
Every winter, the entire cemetery was covered with snow and ice. The gravestones turned white, the grass disappeared, and the ground became as hard as stone. He had worked there for more than thirty years and knew every crack in the headstones, every tree along the fence.
But this grave never froze.
The inscription on the headstone read:
“To our beloved son
1999–2025”
Snow covered the ground all around it, but never the grave itself. The grass beneath the stone remained bright green, as if warmth were rising from beneath the earth.
At first, he assumed someone was tending the grave every day and simply clearing away the snow. He even started arriving before dawn to check.
No one.
For four mornings in a row, he came in the darkness. Everything around was covered in frost, yet the soil remained soft. He tried to convince himself it was a peculiarity of the ground or perhaps old pipes running beneath the cemetery, but his unease only grew.
On the fifth morning, he could no longer resist. He took a shovel and walked to the patch of green. The earth gave way easily, as though it had been recently dug up. The deeper he dug, the stronger the feeling that he was doing something forbidden.
Less than a meter down, the blade struck metal.
Not wood. Not stone.
Something dense and cold.
He stopped, carefully cleared away the dirt with his hands, and realized it was not a coffin….

And that was when things became truly unsettling.
He uncovered more of the metal box and noticed a thick cable running from it toward the old fence. The box felt warm to the touch despite the freezing weather.
Following the cable, he discovered that it had been carefully buried and connected to a discreet electrical panel behind the chapel.
Everything had been done professionally.
It wasn’t anything supernatural.
It was someone’s grief and determination.
A few days later, he noticed an elderly man visiting the grave before sunrise. The man stood there silently for a long time, then checked the connections at the panel and gently straightened the grass with his hands, as if afraid it might freeze.
When the caretaker approached him, the man did not object.
Quietly, he explained that his son had hated winter and had always dreamed of spring.
After his son’s death, the father could not bear the thought of the ground above him becoming cold and lifeless. He hired an electrician, installed a heating system beneath the grave, and for years paid the electricity bills so that the grass would always stay green.
The caretaker said nothing.
He simply looked at the snow all around and at the small green island in the middle of winter.
Sometimes people do strange things—not because of secrets or deception, but because they do not know how to let go.
From that day on, he never touched that grave again.
