My husband showed up with his young mistress and generously gave me just one hour to pack my belongings and get out of his apartment. But he had no idea what I was about to do next—and before long, they both bitterly regretted what they had done.
I was calmly washing the dishes in the kitchen. The evening was quiet and ordinary; nothing foreshadowed any trouble. Suddenly, the doorbell rang. Almost no one ever visited me at this hour.
I walked up to the door, opened it… and just froze for a second.
Standing on the threshold was Mark — my ex-husband. But what shocked me the most was that he hadn’t come alone.
Behind his shoulder stood a young girl. No older than twenty-five. Long blonde hair, heavy makeup, and a short yellow dress.
Taken completely by surprise, I didn’t even have time to say anything and simply stepped aside instinctively. They walked into the apartment.
“Are you deaf or something?” Mark snapped his fingers in front of my face.
I blinked, trying to comprehend what was happening.
“What?”
“You have one hour,” he said coldly. “Pack your things and get out of here.”
I didn’t grasp the meaning of his words right away.
“Excuse me… what?”
Mark sighed with irritation.
“I said: pack your things. We need this apartment.”
He nodded toward the girl.
“This is Emma. My new girlfriend. Gorgeous, isn’t she?”
The girl gave a faint smile and looked at me as if she were evaluating an old piece of furniture.
Mark and I had lived together for almost twenty years. We got divorced a little over a year ago. Our divorce was peaceful. Back then, he said he was tired of marriage and wanted to start a new life.
To be honest, I was already tired of his constant infidelity anyway.
When we were getting divorced, Mark magnanimously declared that he was leaving the apartment to me. At that time, he already had another woman — a wealthy businesswoman he quickly moved in with.
“Take the apartment,” he had said then. “We have a better place to live.”
So I calmly continued living here. It seemed his wealthy mistress had dumped him, and I suspected Emma played a role in that as well.
And now here he was, standing at my doorstep and demanding that I leave.
At first, I wanted to call the police. But then I decided to see how this would play out.
“Mark, let’s talk calmly,” I said. “After all, we lived together for twenty years.”
He smirked mockingly.
“We have nothing to talk about.”
He demonstratively put his arm around Emma’s waist.
“Emma, pick a room. There are only two here. One has a balcony. In the second one, I’ll make an office for myself.”
“I want the one with the balcony,” she said, looking around the apartment.
That was the moment I realized this circus needed to end. And I did something that left the mistress in tears as she fled my apartment, and made my ex-husband deeply regret his arrogance……

“Wait a minute,” I said calmly. “Mark, let’s go into the room and talk.”
He hesitated for a moment, but then nodded. We walked into the living room.
I closed the door and looked at him calmly.
“This apartment is registered in my name.”
He waved his hand dismissively.
“Oh, come on.”
“You insisted on it yourself when you started having business trouble. Remember the notary? The documents? The signatures?”
Mark was silent.
I pulled out a folder of documents and opened it right in front of him.
“Here. The apartment is entirely mine.”
A few years ago, he ran into serious problems with his business, and he proposed transferring all the property into my name so the creditors couldn’t take anything. Back then, he said it was a temporary measure. Later, his business collapsed completely.
He stared at the papers for a long time, then let out a heavy sigh.
All of his confidence suddenly vanished into thin air.
“I got kicked out,” he said quietly.
“By who?”
“Sophia.”
Now everything made sense. His rich girlfriend had thrown him out onto the street.
“And you decided to come back here?” I asked.
He looked away.
“I just have nowhere else to live.”
I calmly closed the folder.
“Mark, you have nothing here. On paper, everything is mine.”
He tried to say something, but couldn’t find the words.
“By the way, the car and the summer house are registered to me as well. You signed everything yourself when you were saving your business.”
He slowly sank onto the sofa.
“Emma doesn’t know…” he muttered softly. “She thinks everything is great with me.”
For a split second, I almost felt a little sorry for him. But not for long.
“Mark, you made this choice yourself. You destroyed everything we had. Now this is my life and my home.”
He remained silent for a long time, then stood up and walked toward the door.
“We’re leaving,” he told Emma curtly.
“Wait…” she said, bewildered. “You said this was your apartment!”
Mark didn’t answer. He simply opened the door and walked out.
The girl stood confused for another second, then hurried after him.
