My mother-in-law called my husband every single day. Not once or twice, but ten times, sometimes even more. In the morning — to wish him a good day. Then during the day — to ask what he had eaten and how he was feeling. In the evening — to find out how his work went and why he was taking so long to reply.

At first, I tried not to pay attention. I convinced myself that it was just normal motherly concern and that eventually she would calm down. But time passed, and the calls only became more frequent. They could start early in the morning and continue until late at night.

The phone rang during dinner, while we were watching movies, on weekends, and even when we were alone together. My husband always answered calmly and gave detailed responses, as if he were reporting to her. I sat beside him and felt like a stranger in my own family.

I tried talking to him. I explained that we couldn’t live like this, that we needed boundaries. We started arguing more often, but every time he found an excuse. He said he didn’t want to hurt his mother, that she was alone, that she was having a hard time.

Almost a year passed like this. The constant calls and messages poisoned every day. The tension grew, my trust faded, and I increasingly found myself thinking that there weren’t just two people in this marriage.

One day, my husband rushed off to work and accidentally left his phone at home. It was lying on the table when it suddenly vibrated. A message from my mother-in-law appeared on the screen. I wasn’t planning to read it, but my eyes caught the first few lines.

My mother-in-law called my husband ten times a day, and I had to accept it. But one day, I accidentally saw his messages with his mother and realized with horror that this was far from a normal conversation between a son and his mother.

I opened the conversation. And at that moment, my blood literally ran cold. What she was writing to her son had nothing to do with ordinary motherly care. When I finished reading the messages, my hair stood on end… ..

I opened the chat without expecting anything unusual. At first, everything looked completely innocent.

“Good morning,” “How did you sleep?” “Did you get to work safely?” “Don’t forget to eat.” Normal messages, the kind a mother might send.

I scrolled down. Then back up. And suddenly, I caught myself feeling something strange. In every message, my mother-in-law called him by affectionate names. Not just “son,” but something else.

“Sweetheart,” “darling,” “my love,” “my dear.” It was too personal.

I stopped and reread several messages in a row. And the more I read, the stronger my feeling of discomfort became. An adult man. A married man. A mother doesn’t write like that. It was something completely different.

I decided to scroll further up to the older messages. And that was when my attention was caught by a photo icon.

I opened them — and I literally stopped breathing. On the screen were intimate photos of a young woman. Someone who looked nothing like my mother-in-law.

At that moment, everything fell into place. All those endless calls. Those “motherly” messages at any time of day or night. His nervousness whenever his phone was nearby. His habit of walking away whenever she called.

Suddenly, I understood how frighteningly simple and cruel the whole thing had been. All this time, it wasn’t his mother who had been calling and messaging him.

It was his mistress.

And her number had been saved under the name “Mom” so that I would never ask any questions.

I sat there holding his phone in my hands, realizing that for an entire year I had been living in a marriage where I was being deceived every single day.
