A wife had been finding beach sand in her accountant husband’s pockets for six years, but she never asked any questions. However, one day she couldn’t stand it anymore and decided to follow him — and the truth she discovered left her in shock .

I noticed the yellow sand by accident. I was emptying the pockets before washing, as usual, when suddenly large shiny grains spilled onto the floor. I was confused. My husband worked as an accountant and sat in his office all day. Where did sand like that come from in his trousers — sand that looked like it came from a beach?

At first, I said nothing. I just cleaned it up and threw it away, thinking I must have imagined it. But a week later it happened again. Then again. Sometimes the sand was in the back pocket, sometimes in his jacket, once even in the cuff of his shirt. And it always happened on Saturdays.

On Saturdays, Viktor would get up at six in the morning. He dressed quietly so as not to wake me and left without breakfast. He returned in the evening tired, with dirty shoes. He said there was a backlog at work, reports. I nodded. Thirty years of marriage teach you to trust words, even when something inside you feels uneasy.

I stayed silent for six years. Six years of shaking out sand and pretending I noticed nothing. I was afraid to ask because I was afraid of the answer. But that day something inside me snapped. I realized I wanted to find out what my husband was hiding, and I was ready for any truth.

On the next Saturday, he left the house, and without thinking I put on my coat and followed him. I kept my distance so he wouldn’t notice me. He got on a bus and got off on the outskirts of the city. There were no offices or factories there — only an old quarry and a narrow road leading to an abandoned warehouse.

At that moment, I knew I was about to learn a terrible truth. What I saw next horrified me…..

I hid behind a concrete slab and watched as my husband, a chief accountant, came down carrying a shovel.

He started digging. Slowly, confidently, like someone who had done it before. Then he took out a metal sieve and began sifting the sand. At first, I didn’t understand. Then I saw tiny shiny grains left at the bottom of the sieve.

Gold.

He was washing the sand in a plastic basin, carefully collecting everything that glittered, pouring it into a small container, and hiding it in his backpack. Everything was precise and calm,

without panic, as if it were his second job.

I couldn’t believe my eyes.

For six years, every Saturday he had been illegally mining gold. Without a license, without permits. Making “black” money and staying silent. He never told me a word.

He was convinced I would never notice — that I would just wash his trousers and shake out the sand without asking any questions.
